Opioid Abuse and Addiction in Wisconsin

Members of the Wisconsin Association of Health Plans have jointly committed to combating opioid abuse and addiction in Wisconsin. While individual member health plans have already implemented strategies to address the opioid epidemic in the state, effective April 1, 2017, Wisconsin's community-based health plans are collaborating on new initiatives.

Statement of Principles

Wisconsin's community-based health plans are committed to helping combat the deadly epidemic of opioid abuse affecting their communities. Association members are working to ensure that patients receive the right care at the right time in the most appropriate setting. Honoring that commitment requires health plans to review, and where appropriate revise, programs and policies to ensure that every member has access to appropriate care, consistent with medical guidelines.

The Opioid Initiative Statement of Principles covers prevention and treatment and form the basis for sharing information, best practices and evidence-based strategies.
